HGTV HOME™ Furniture Collection Explores New Techniques to Bring a Pop of Color to Case Goods

Furniture World News Desk on 10/14/2013

HGTV HOME™ Furniture Collection, announced that it has found new ways to add brilliant color to their wood furnishings. Being introduced at the High Point Market are eye-popping chest and credenza pieces finished in vivid turquoise blue or bright green aniline dyes creating striking vibrant colors for statement accent elements.

“When it comes to finishing wood furniture many manufacturers use stain, varnish or if bright colors are needed, paint. Those traditional processes work well but they coat the wood surface instead of bringing out the true beauty of the grain,” stated Matt Johnson, HGTV HOME Furniture vice president of product development and sales. “The aniline dyes, used mostly in high end musical instruments, are translucent and penetrate the wood’s surface allowing the natural grain patterns, in this case highly figured maple, to show through. The aniline dyes we use offer a more saturated color than stain.”

The aniline dyed pieces are inspired by mid-century modern styling, a look making a strong resurgence given its uncluttered but dramatic presence. They are crafted with maple veneered cases highlighted by translucent turquoise or green dyed figured maple veneer fronts. The chest has two doors and storage shelves inside. The credenza has two doors with adjustable shelves inside and six storage drawers. It can be used as a home entertainment or accent piece.
“This new dye process can also be used to highlight the wood’s grain while achieving a more subtle look. We used a transparent graphite aniline dye on a sideboard to coordinate with our new Voyage collection and bring out the unique diamond pattern on the veneered front,” Johnson concluded. The sideboard has storage drawers and doors with adjustable shelves inside.
